Jump around, jump around...

Sierra loves, loves LOVES the trampoline her grandparents bought for her (and Sawyer when he's jump capable).

The summer switch has finally been flipped gracing us with temperatures in the mid-high 20's and lots of glorious sun! We are sooooo enjoying it.

I hate to be the big wet blanket, but it is part of my business.

Trampolines are dangerous. Lots of kids get injured, many severely (12% require hospital admission which is very high). The Canadian Pediatric Society and the American Academy of Pediatrics put out statements strongly recommending against any home or playground trampolines. Health Canada doesn't go as far, but does recommend supervision at all times, only kids over 6 years, one person at a time, no stunts, shock absorbing pads, enclosure netting and keeping the trampoline at ground level.

I know I am a downer but I thought I would share the information and you can chose what to do with it.

Yeah, I know they are not the safest toy. It's hard to know what to do with that fact because they are so fun! Sierra is not allowed anywhere near the trampoline (or outside for that matter) without Trevor or myself. We will likely buy and add the enclosure netting in the next year or two. Digging it underground was our first choice but ended up being impossible. At this point she doesn't jump high enough to be dangerous.
Thanks for the info, even if it's a downer - I know you've seen/see the bad part of trampolines!

that picture of sierra is too cute.

while i agree with the first comment to an extent, im of the opinion that we cant shelter children forever, and kids NEED to learn how to explore all parts of life, obviously with an amount of caution and common sense.

the fact of the matter is, kids can get hurt doing just about anything.

having said that, i will say that on the drive to oregon, we passed a house that had the trampoline in THE FRONT YARD, inches from the road, and there were at least 4 kids on it. i was like, what the heck is wrong with people?!?!
